Babbage Construction Limited created a new entrance in York stone to provide independent access to the lower ground floor accommodation of this impressive family home in a South London residential square.

The client’s brief focussed on future proofing the property for multi-generational occupancy as a key requirement for this project, whilst working within the conservation area requirements.

Working directly with the clients we used a design and build contract to realise a full width patio for the basement and an imaginative overhead walkway to maintain access from the garden to the raised ground floor at the rear of the main house. Excavation and external landscaping proved to be as much a feature of this project as the re-ordering of the lower ground floor.

An open plan living space and bedroom/study area separated by the ensuite facilities and inclusion of the hidden under stairs utility area were all important to the specification.

Terraced planting from the sunken patio with stepped access up to the main garden completed the look for this reimagined version of the lower floor to this lovely home.
