The owners of this modest house on an extensive and secluded plot in the Surrey Hills were seeking to improve their home by creating a modern family outdoors lifestyle for their growing family with increased guest accommodation and environmental consideration.
The project comprised a large full width extension across the back of the property with a modern kitchen and living space presenting to the garden through 12 metres of full height glazing.
Outside a raised patio feature was created to bring the inside out from the wide family living rooms. The extensive landscaping also allowed for the installation of a ground source heat pump and the creation of a lake utilising the natural underground springs.
Additional ground floor improvements to the main house included a boot room and a wet room off the kitchen area. Data to all rooms throughout the house was connected and a media room for TV and AV entertainments provided.
For the guest suite accommodation, a barn was converted to give mezzanine sleeping quarters accessed via a bespoke rustic oak tree staircase with kitchenette, shower room and living space opening onto a private outside area overlooking the lake.
The owners have considerably improved this family home to create an impressive accommodation In a conservation area which is part of the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty as well as a Site of Special Scientific interest owing to the significant population of Knatterjack toads that also call this home.
